Our Underground Tank products include... What is the difference? Conventional "tank terminology" defines and underground tank as "…a tank or vessel that is placed underground in intimate contact with dirt, soil or stone, and used to store, transfer or dispense petroleum distillates, chemicals, water or other fluids." Typical "underground" tank installations consist of digging or excavating a hole, burying a tank usually constructed of steel, fiberglass or combinations thereof, and installing pipework, manways, electronic fluid monitoring equipment, etc. to effect the safe storage of petroleum products (gasoline, diesel, heating oil, jet fuel, etc.). Typical "underground tank installations" lower the tank in the ground, backfill the excavation with stone and/or soil, and ultimately cover the tank with either soil, stone, concrete or asphalt. Recent concern regarding the long-term reliability of underground tanks and their ability to absolutely contain petroleum products and chemicals without contaminating soil and groundwater supplies has resulted in improved "underground" tank products and containment systems.
